Astro wins Audience Choice Award, build a wishlist app with Astro, hybrid frontend architecture with Astro and Starlight
Greetings Astro Weekly crew members!
It feels like only yesterday I was writing last week’s newsletter — Tuesdays come around quickly! It’s been a relatively quiet week on the official Astro news front, so I’ll include an additional community resource this week. ;)
This week in Astro ✨

Astro wins at GitHub Awards 🏆
Pop open the champagne, as Astro was a winner at this year’s GitHub Awards as the proud recipient of the Audience Choice Award.
The Audience Choice Award recognises a project that has been voted by developers as a project that has helped them create an impact.
I’m not entirely sure if the Astro team received a physical award, but I’d like to think there’s a gold Octocat statue in the mail.
The GitHub Awards acknowledge and celebrate exceptional contributions and achievements within the developer community. They aim to honor individuals, projects, and organisations for their significant work, innovation, thought leadership, and overall positive impact on the community.
Check out the official GitHub blog for a full list of all the award winners announced at GitHub Universe 2023.

Build a wishlist app with Astro 📋
The first in a series of posts about building quick and useful apps with Astro, Darko Bozhinovski shows how you to build a wishlist app with Astro, SolidJS, and Baserow.
Ideal for building those essential gift lists for the approaching holidays, Darko skillfully showcases Astro's versatility as a powerful tool for developing web applications beyond just content-driven sites.
Design an application with CMS and Auth support
Hybrid Frontend Architecture with Astro and Starlight 🌟
A few weeks back, you may recall Maxi Ferriera and Ben Holmes teamed up for a live stream, delving into application design and architecture with Astro.
In their session, Maxi and Ben took on a fictional project, swiftly implementing a prototype using Starlight, Astro's official documentation template.
Maxi has now published a written article that not only recaps the insightful discussion but also extends the prototype to fulfill all the project requirements, incorporating TinaCMS and Lucia Auth.
Build a movie app in vanilla JS with Astro 🍿
Thomas Weibenfalk has dropped a new tutorial demonstrating how to build a movie database application with infinity scroll and search functionality with Astro.
The app makes use of the View Transitions API and web components and is built entirely without any external libraries or frameworks.

Astro Showcase 🌠
This week we have an absolutely outstanding portfolio by Félix Péault, a freelance digital designer and art director based in the South of France.
Très bien
Fèlix’s portfolio embraces different dimensions with strong use of animation, vibrant branding, and 3D effects.
Built with a tech stack including Astro, Svelte, Sanity, and Lenis, Fèlix’s portfolio scores an impressive 98 performance in Core Web Vitals while remaining creative and fun. Great job, Fèlix! 👏

What caught my eye outside of Astro this week…
Deals for Devs — level up your skills, desk setup, or gadget collection with these Black Friday deals
TailwindMate — easily convert colors to their closest Tailwind counterparts
Screen Studio — create high-quality videos without video editing skills
That’s all for this week!
Feel free to drop me an email at [email protected] or send me a DM on X if you have something you wish to contribute to next week’s issue.
Have a great week, Astronauts!
