Astro Studio 2024-2024

Astro Studio to shut down 🪦

Astro has announced that Astro Studio, its hosted database platform for Astro DB, will begin winding down operations starting October 1, 2024.

Citing challenges in achieving product-market fit, Astro co-creator Fred Schott detailed the reasoning behind the decision while also providing a glimpse into what lies ahead for Astro DB.

With Astro Studio winding down, we can now invest our time and energy into making Astro DB even more open and powerful for everyone.

As of Astro 4.15, you can now connect Astro DB to any libSQL (SQLite) database!

I’m personally so excited for a world where Astro DB can talk to any database you point it to. One day, Astro DB could talk to your MySQL or Postgres database, entirely built-in to the Astro framework. This change takes us one step closer to that future!

Fred Schott, Astro co-creator

If you’re an Astro Studio user, here are the key dates and details:

  • Invites to Astro Studio will remain closed.

  • Existing users will no longer be able to create new databases after October 1, 2024.

  • Existing databases will no longer be accessible after March 1, 2025.

  • Any remaining databases will be deleted on or soon after March 1, 2025.

If you are a current Astro Studio user, check your email inbox or the Astro Discord server in the coming days for more information and instructions.
