But, a lot can happen in a week inside the Astroverse, so let’s check out what’s been happening since our last update.

This week in Astro

What’s new with you?

February recap 🧢

It’s a little light on the official Astro news front this week (I can’t think of anything that could be occupying the Astro team right now — can you?), so now seems a perfect time for us all to take a breather and catch up.

February saw the release of Astro 4.3 and 4.4, a trio of releases for Starlight, and expanded documentation that now includes help getting started with e-commerce and authentication in Astro.

Oh, and a release date for a small thing called Astro Studio.

If you’ve recently joined us, why not also check out what’s been happening from the Astro community in previous issues of Astro Weekly?

Guess who’s back with a brand new rap

Build a site search with Astro, Qwik and Fuse.js 🔍

I promise this newsletter is not sponsored by Paul Scanlon. Paul just happens to be a machine when it comes to sharing Astro wisdom on the weekly.

In his latest post, Paul explains how to build a site search using Astro’s content collections, static endpoints, and Qwik’s Astro integration with Fuse.js.

Automatic Image Optimization ⚡️

Astro helps us all ship blazingly fast websites. A huge part of this is thanks to the magic of Astro when it comes to optimizing images.

There have been significant changes and improvements to how we work with images in Astro since the release of 4.0, such as the new Image and Picture components, and the getImage() function.

If you need a quick refresher on the differences between them, check out this video that covers everything you need to know by Coding in Public.

Finally, a podcast just for me

If you don’t know Flexbox from CSS Grid, then listen up.

Bad at CSS is a podcast hosted by David East and Adam Argyle, and as the name implies, this is a podcast for those who are bad at CSS — that’s a pretty large audience, right there. ;)

You can catch up on all episodes over on Bad at CSS’s new home built with Astro. The CSS also checks out.

Beyond the Astrosphere 🪐

What caught my eye outside of Astro this week…

  • Mario Kart 3.js — an incredible recreation of your favorite kart racer built with Three.js. Wahoo!

  • UVCanvas — an open source React.js component library for beautifully shaded canvas

  • Aceternity UI — copy and paste the most trending UI components and use them in your projects

That’s it for another edition of Astro Weekly.

I’ll be back in your inboxes at a slightly later time than usual next week, with the first details on Astro Studio. Don’t miss it!

In the meantime, if you have something you’d like to share with your fellow Astronauts, you can reach me at [email protected] or via DM on X.

Safe adventures out there.
